Welcome to another Q&A session where I answer questions from y'all on the internet.
Today's question is:
Can I put duct tape over my windshield crack to stop it from cracking out until I get paid? So, this is a large myth. So, nail polish remover is not going to help. Duct tape is not going to help. If that if that chip is cracking out and it's cracking out fast, it's either due to the the body shifting, you know, flexing while you're driving, it's gonna happen. So, a crack repair is a very it's a very niche um service. So, we only do chip repair, but once it's cracked out a few inches and it just keeps going, generally it's time for a replacement, at least with Magnetch.
But I would definitely re uh always send us a picture or tell us if it's like a few inches out because we would absolutely recommend a replacement at that point.
Magnatech Autoglass debunked the myth that duct tape or nail polish remover can stop a crack from spreading (00:15:56). They also advised against deliberately trying to worsen a crack to force an insurance replacement, as insurance companies typically authorize replacement once a crack exceeds a certain length (00:19:20). They stated that airport noise vibrations are unlikely to worsen cracks but warned against parking in poorly lit or non-commuted areas in Federal Way, due to high crime and frequent tempered glass vandalism in that city.
