Welcome to another Q&A session where I answer questions from y'all on the internet.
Today's question is:
Can rain get inside my windshield crack and make it explode. So, so I've never seen that. So, I have seen a bullet hole through a windshield where you could physically see through both layers of the glass. That's a different story. You rarely ever see that. I'd say 99.9% of all chips on a windshield are only through that first layer. It's laminated glass, so there's two layers of glass. Most of most of the time, it never makes it through this the second layer of glass. So, if if you'll notice when you get a chip repair why you can't feel it on the inside of the window, but it's on the outside is because it's only through that first layer.
So, generally, you're safe.
Magnatech Autoglass clarified that rain cannot make a windshield crack explode, as chips usually penetrate only the first layer of the two-layered laminated glass (00:10:55). They insisted that they will always recalibrate the ADAS camera after a windshield replacement to OEM specifications, even if a customer claims they do not use it, considering it a mandatory safety and liability measure (00:11:58). Teslas have many different windshield versions—about eight or nine options per model—which requires careful attention during replacement (00:18:08).
