Welcome to another Q&A session where I answer questions from y'all on the internet.
Today's question is:
We always recommend waiting 24 to 48 hours before you wash your car. We use the fastest Mach 30 Sika urethane—it’s the fastest on the market—so it’s going to be airbag safe after 30 minutes. But to be safe, 24 to 48 hours, no car washes.
The reason we give that longer window is because even though the urethane reaches safety standards quickly, washing the car too soon can put unnecessary stress on the installation or the repaired area. Water pressure, brushes, and general agitation can be a problem if you rush it. So our recommendation is simple: even with fast-curing urethane, give it a full day or two before you go through a wash. That way you’re not risking your new windshield bond or a fresh repair just because you wanted a clean car immediately.
Magnatech recommends waiting 24–48 hours before washing your vehicle after a windshield replacement or chip repair. Even though their Mach 30 urethane becomes airbag-safe after 30 minutes, they advise extra time to be safe.
