Welcome to another Q&A session where I answer questions from y'all on the internet.
Today's question is:
Great question, and one that comes up a lot—especially when someone has all four door glasses tinted and one of them gets busted out. You don’t want to end up driving around with one clear window like a patch job, right? At Magnatech, we go out of our way to make sure your new door glass looks just like the others.
First thing we do is roll down one of the opposite side windows and use a meter to get an exact reading of the tint percentage. It'll usually come back as something like 35%, 20%, or 15%—whatever you originally had. That gives us a baseline to start matching from.
Then we ask you if the tint was ceramic or carbon. Most people don’t know right off the bat, so we’ll explain the differences and sometimes even let you see both options side by side. We’ve got a tint section in the shop with samples and tools ready to go. Once we narrow down what your original tint was, we’ll find the closest possible match in our inventory.
We’ll quote you for the new tint, and most times we can install it right then and there while the new door glass is already out. That way it looks uniform and you’re not stuck coming back for a second appointment.
Now, with so many tint brands out there, we can’t always guarantee a 100% perfect match—but we get pretty dang close. Our goal is to make it look like nothing ever happened.
When replacing a broken door glass that was tinted, Magnatech Autoglass takes steps to match the new tint as closely as possible. They meter the remaining tint, identify its type (carbon or ceramic), and use the closest available film match, offering in-house tinting during the replacement for seamless results.
