Hey folks! This is Jake from Magnatech Auto Glass.

Welcome to another Q&A session where I answer questions from y'all on the internet.

Today's question is:

"Should I ignore or fix a tiny rock chip? - Magnatech Autoglass"

 Answer:

No—don’t sit on it. I would definitely get it repaired. If you have an expensive windshield, it’s imperative that you get it repaired quickly, especially because we’re going into the winter months right now. It’s getting really cold, and defrosters are going to start cracking out a lot of windshields. A tiny chip can be easy to overlook, but once temperatures drop and you start heating the windshield from the inside, that little damage can turn into a full crack fast. The smart move is to take care of it early while it’s still small. That way you’re protecting the windshield you already paid for instead of rolling the dice and ending up needing a full replacement because a chip decided it wanted to grow overnight.

 Summary:

Magnatech strongly recommends repairing small rock chips promptly, especially in colder months. Winter temperature swings and defroster use can cause tiny chips to crack out into larger windshield damage, turning an easy repair into a costly replacement.
