Welcome to another Q&A session where I answer questions from y'all on the internet.
Today's question is:
Two things: crackouts and door glass. Cold windshield, hot defrosters—that’ll crack a chip quick. But number one? Door glass. It’s 15 degrees out, someone smashes your window—you’re not waiting two days. We prioritize those. In most cases, we’ll get you in and out the same day.
This actually pops up a lot around the holidays. People call me like, “Hey Jake, I know it’s freezing and dumping rain—can I still get my windshield replaced, or do I need to wait until spring?” And the short answer is—you can absolutely get it done. In fact, winter is one of our busiest seasons because of break-ins, icy cracks, and just straight-up bad luck with road debris.
But—and this is important—weather conditions do play a role. Glass replacement in cold weather is totally doable, but we need dry surfaces and at least a semi-controlled environment to get a solid seal. If it’s actively raining or snowing and you’re trying to do a mobile install in a parking lot or on a job site, that’s where we run into problems. The adhesive we use needs a dry surface and certain temperature ranges to cure properly. If it’s below freezing or super wet, we may need to reschedule, or we’ll ask you to bring it into the shop instead.
Now if you come to our shop—no worries at all. We’re fully equipped to do installs year-round, and we can control the environment better. Plus, you avoid the mobile fee. A lot of people are surprised when they hear we’re still doing dozens of jobs a week in the winter. But hey, rock chips and thieves don’t take a season off, so neither do we.
One more thing—if you’re dealing with a defroster that isn’t working right or fogging up like crazy because your windshield’s been compromised, don’t wait. That can turn into a visibility hazard real fast. So don’t let winter stop you from getting your glass fixed. Just give us a call, and we’ll work with the weather to get it done right.
In winter, door glass replacements surge due to break-ins. Cracks from defrosters on cold windshields also rise. Door glass jobs are prioritized, often with same-day turnaround.
