Welcome to another Q&A session where I answer questions from y'all on the internet.
Today's question is:
I’ve experienced this a lot. I’ll get to a customer car, the door glass is intact, and they’re like, “Hey, I need help.” They shut the door and I hear it rattle—sounds like marbles inside. And you always ask one question: “Have you ever had this glass replaced?” They always say yes.
Then I say, “Okay, let me pull the panel up and I’ll show you exactly what it is.” That last technician that replaced the glass did not try to vacuum all of the glass inside that door panel. Ninety-nine percent of door panels out there, you can vacuum 100% of it. If you don’t, it’s just lazy. There is a small percentage of vehicles where it’s extremely hard to get all of it, but you should be trying to get 98–99%. You should never shut that door and hear marbles. But it happens.
A “bag of marbles” sound typically means broken glass was left inside the door after a prior window replacement. Magnatech says most doors can be vacuumed nearly completely, and failing to remove the shards is usually poor workmanship.
